I am back after a long long time.It's been nearly a month since I have updated my blog.What to do...with the semester exams coming perilously close to begin my tormenting sessions,it was inevitable that I had to cut down on some of my online activities.After nearly a month of trauma and calamity,the storm has weathered away,or has it?Because the maths exams are still not over, due to the ubiquitous bandh culture that's propagated by our esteemed leaders!!
But who cares for the sole exam that's left!!So the time has come to dump my books into the corner of the shelf till the next semester starts and to have a blast.It's time for the Euro Cup!!Breath-taking football catches our fantasy as we slog out till late hours of the night to enjoy the fabulous football action.Cut back a couple of months and then also I had to burn the midnight oil to cram up my books but all I could do was put up a pair of sleepy eyes reluctantly gazing at the pages of the books!!
So,finally that the sems are nearing their end,I can heave a sigh of relief and look forward to blogging on a more regular basis.

Dr VenuGopal I Salute You...
Our unhealthy health minister Ambumani Ramdas got a nice judicial treatment by Supreme Court today. I liked this nice line by BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. This line said a lot about the drama which was going on for past one year for autonomy of one of the most respected institutes of India: AIIMS. The main conspirator, actor, director and script writer of this drama was Dr Ambumani Ramdas of PMK party in TamilNadu. Who to his credit has only one thing that he belongs to some so called backward caste and reaping the benefit of that same low caste even after acquiring so much properties and medical colleges in Tamilnadu and I don’t know how long he will remain the backward. Well what else you can expect from a corrupt Indian politician except to bend and change rules for their selfish narrow interests.
When he was inducted in cabinet by poor MMS he asked for health ministry as he is having many medical colleges and lots of relatives in medical field that can get benefit of him being a health minister. Instead of looking into issues of malnutrition, infant mortality rate, universal health care, good and affordable health care for poor in India, he concentrated more on being in headline for stupid reasons like making statement against smoking and drinking of actors on cinema. He is thinking that whole of India is crazy about their film stars like some people in TamilNadu. Who will do anything their film stars do on the screen. I guess majority of the smokers and poor in India don’t start smoking out of their choice and seeing film stars. The poor population starts smoking because they don’t have any other thing to eat and entertain themselves. So smoking gives them a little stress relief at lower cost in form of Beedi. Majority in college starts smoking for fun and then get habitual to it. I have seen this in case of many of my friends and colleagues. Smoking by actors on film may be a inspiration for some people but I have never came across a person who says that he started smoking or drinking because he has seen some actor doing that. Do you guys really think that banning liquor advertisement on TV will anyway stop people from drinking and more importantly should a health minister involve himself in such a thing where he has many more important issues to attend?
I am not glorifying smoking and drinking and I know and very well understand that excessive liquor consumption by a family member leads to devastating results. But the path adopted by health minister is not the proper way to address that. He is just doing it to be in news because he doesn’t have anything other to show. Ramdas attacked Dr Venugopal because he wasn’t “cooperating” with him in granting favors to Ramdas’s relatives. When he saw that he cant dislodge an honest person from doing his job, he adopted the similar path like his corrupt ilk to get the law passed by bunch of thugs to lower the retirement age to 65 for AIIMS director. This is another episode where you can clearly see the weakness of the weakest prime minister of India Dr MMS. Dr MMS is educated enough with foreign degrees to understand the game plans of his ilk. But he, like many other instances, chose to remain silent and became a party in crime.
Dr Venugopal is world respected cardiologist, who performed first heart transplant in India. When many talented people were leaving India for sake of opportunities and better future abroad, few highly talented people like Dr Venugopal chose to stay in India and give their services to motherland. I would like to ask why a Lakshmi Niwas Mittal , a Hargovinda Khurana, a Chandrashekhar Subramaniam has to leave India to create their name? Answer is insult of that talent by bunch of corrupt thug politicians. They have not tried to created a working culture where merit and only merit would have been the criteria for someone’s job but instead they promoted culture of sycophancy which resulted in reward for few family members and disgust for the whole general public. Ramdas would have got away with all his stupidity if he was doing it in 70s or 80s. Today’s India is much different and I guess everyone can feel this except these corrupt thugs. Who doesn’t know any boundary while taking revenge for their stupid ego. These politicians were supposed to be servant of public but in India we have a majority which makes public to serve their interest. That’s why some caste based party like PMK is enjoying so much clout that poor MMS isnt able to do anything.
Although lower judiciary in India is neck deep in corruption but Supreme Court and High Courts of India still have some honest judges left, those who don’t fear anything and give verdicts solely on basis of solid arguments. I must take name of Justice Jagmohan Lal Sinha who showed rare courage and honesty and disqualified all powerful Indira Gandhi from her election from RaiBareli for using corrupt means. It was the courage of a single honest Indian which was responsible for change in long congress rule of India after independence. No body today remembers all those judges who were serving ruling party’s interest but everyone remembers one true honest judge of high court of Allahabad who just did his job properly. Is it too much to ask from civil servants to do their job properly? I guess the word proper had lost its meaning in India but now you see the nano revolution everywhere. Just one honest civil servant K J Rao gave Bihar its fairest assembly election of last 20 years. It was the power of a single honest person which stood against all the corruption and crime and gave people what they actually have as fundamental right i.e. the right to vote freely on their will. That power unseated one of the most corrupt Indian politician Lalu Yadav and ended his jungle raj in Bihar.
I salute Dr VenuGopal because he stood for the truth, he stood up for the fight against corrupt means which just wants to serve its narrow interest in form of Ramdas.
This darkness of past many years has taken us to unimaginable filths where India got compared to everything worst in the world.Let us celebrate this day for the victory of truth .

Pokhraan nuke test celebrations:why give political colour?
Very often, new governments refuse to accept or reverse policies instituted by the previous regime. But its probably an India-special that we turn everything 180 degrees. The UPA Government has had a special penchant for this... and where the policies worked, they commandeered them by doing the thing they do best- giving them a Gandhi name. Family first, Patriotism and national welfare comes later.
Now, as we approach a decade of one of the Nation's greatest achievements , the Pokhran-II Nuclear tests (May 11 and 13, 1998), the UPA policy seems to be disgustingly clear - reject it! The UPA government has decided not to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the tests.
And to explain their stance,the minister of State for Defence has said that the pokhran test had brought many sanctions to India.But the UPA should not forget that it is being able to negotiate a nuclear deal with the USA only because of the pokhran tests.And if the sanctions are a cause for not celebrating the pokhran tests then the UPA should be reminded that the 1974 nuke tests had brought about far greater sanctions.So does the UPA government want ot say that the nuke deal was actually harmful?Let them answer this question and their political hypocrisy would be shamefully exposed!!!And again if the sanctions and the associated problem are taken into account then we should also not celebrate the creation of bangl;adesh which has brought about a far greater mulotitude of problems than the Pokhran tests.
It is nauseating to see the ministers denigrate our scientists and spit on all the positives that the Shakti tests achieved, just so that the Congress wouldn't give away brownie points to the NDA.
In fact, when we celebrate so many days for idiotic reasons only because some inbred fool was born with the Gandhi surname, why can't we celebrate something of substance, instead of - Sadbhavana Divas (Rajiv Gandhi's Birthday), Children's Day (Nehru's Birthday), National Integration Day (Indira Gandhi's Birthday), National Oathtaking day (Indira Gandhi's Death Anniversary).
The UPA should do well to remember that if we can look into the eyes of the superpower nations and negotiate deals it is only due to our nuclear capability that was brought about by the pokhran nuclear tests.The other developed nations also consider us as a powerful nation and woo us only because we are a nuke capable nation and it is only for this reason that we are thought about by the west as a deterrent to the Chinese.The UPA can ignore the Pokhran nuke tests but rational and educated people will understand the importance of Pokhranm in Indian history.
But nothing more can be expected from a party which is more interested in the interests of the family lineage that is Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi rather than the interests of the party!!!!The Congress should understand that in preventing the NDA getting some brownie points it has only further alieneted itself from the "aam admi" whose cause it so staunchly supports and this might return to haunt the UPA during the polls actually!!

Manmohan Singh's Moral Policing
The Prime Minister seems to be in a moralising mood again. As he has done before, he has tried to caution businessmen about their wasteful conspicuous consumption. “A measure of sobriety in corporate lifestyle and compensation can also help cut costs and maintain the price level”, Dr Singh told a business lobby group. This is little short of ridiculous. There is no doubt that big businessmen and small businessmen in India all love to spend their money, and often do so in grotesquely ugly ways and very rarely make any real charitable contribution to Indian society. But that is something for padres and priests to admonish them about, not prime ministers. Why was India’s PM addressing a business lobby group at all, it might be asked. The frequency with which the PM, UPA Chair, Finance Minister, Commerce Minister, Opposition Leader, even a former President and many other “top dignitaries” end up facing big business audiences or talking to media moguls is itself a measure of how powerful such lobbies have become in the country’s politics. Asking businessmen to curb their conspicuous consumption is in any case like preaching abstinence in a brothel. For a politician to be doing the preaching makes it even more incongruous. Yet what may be worse than the PM’s misplaced moralising is the illogic of his inflation-analysis. For him to suggest that if only businessmen cut their personal consumption, the price-level might be maintained, i.e. inflation might fall, reveals that Dr Manmohan Singh has not lost any of his socialist misconceptions from his days as a favoured bureaucrat of Indira Gandhi’s coterie. No Prime Minister, inflation is not being caused by such banalities as businesmen’s conspicuous consumption. The more serious matter to look at is, as has been argued in these pages, the wasteful and indeed conspicuous consumption indulged in by India’s Union and State Government politicians, bureaucrats and military ~ paid for by more and more paper money printing. Intellectual honesty, like charity, needs to begin at home.
Ekta Kapoor and her damn boring soaps
Today is yet another Monday ,the beginning of a new week,but for me,in my household,it is the beginning of yet another dreadful week of melodrama and false crocodile-tears of the protagonists of the ever-continuing family soaps that are produced by that horrendous lady called Ekta Kapoor!!!
A person living in India who has not heard about Ekta Kapoor is very rare.Whether you like her or hate her,you cannot ignore her.She always hogs the limelight on prime time television..be it the tele-soaps or the vernacular news channel.Name any topic in this world that you hate and she has mentioned it in her serials.What is more surprising is that she even gets sponsors for these bullshit soaps.
If you carefully follow her serials,you are bound to discover that they are essentially based on the same boring topics.On one hand she is obsessed with woman empowerment, on the other hand she always shows her female protagonists to be exploited in the serials, such is the irony.Moreover I think that she is a firm believer in the process of polygamy because not a single male protagonist in her serial is portrayed with a single wife,they have a minimum of at least two or three partners..and there is always a tussle for supremacy between these two partners and in this way she veers away from her main aim of showing woman empowerment and delves into the melodramatic quarrels of the family.
And just when you think that enough is enough and get exasperated,there comes another twist..a 20 year leap ion the story line and the same story gets repeated only this time the protagonists are a generation younger.And in these serials,the grandmothers and great grandmothers never grow old and their passions of love are never doused so they join forces with their younger generations in shuttling between their multiple partners.
Coming to the point i started off with, if you sit down to watch her serials as a source of anecdote for women empowerment,then you r going to be severely mistaken,because in India the women who are oppressed do not get the opportunity neither do they have the finances to wear such expensive clothes and designer dresses and hosting parties and pujas in the houses are a monthly affair and another common event about these so-called social gatherings is that one dark secret of the household gets spilled .
On a concluding note I certainly hope and pray to god that better sense prevails over the people in my household and over the Indian public in general so that many people like me do not have to be tortured by these horrendous serials during prime time television hours.

EUTHANASIA:WHETHER IT IS ETHICAL OR NOT??

Without going into the question of ethics i would like to put forward some facts that show why I am a strong supporter of euthanasia. This, as we all know is a very controversial topic. The controversy stems from its very definition from the perspective of various people. EUTHANASIA is the process of medically assisted death. According to some it is a way of giving relief to a person’s pain while the others prefer to define it as cold blooded murder.
EUTHANASIA can be of various types:
1. by consent:
· voluntary
· involuntary
2. by means:
· passive
· non-aggressive
· aggressive
But after much deliberation I have concluded that it is more a process of alleviating one’s excruciating pain than a cold blooded murder because:
1. Choice is a fundamental principle for liberal democracies and free market systems and one should have complete say over one’ lifespan..how long the person wants to live or not and others have no right to interfere in his opinions
2. Only a person who is suffering can realise the excruciating pain that one has to undergo and only when there is no hope for cure or a better life does one wish to die..and some enlightened people prefer to term it has completely unethical!!!
3. Moreover a person who is extremely depressed with the quality of his life but is not able to undergo euthanasia may be driven to such extremes that he may be even forced to commit suicides. And I would like to stress upon this fact by quoting a small bit of statistics from the website www.usatoday.com which states that More than 30 terminally ill people from England have ended their lives since March 2003.
While the above are mainly the emotional and psychological reasons for my support for euthanasia, the following facts focus on some very hard truths which are quite unpalatable to the anti-euthanasia group.
1. Anti-euthanasia people are basically believers of trying to make a person live as much longer as possible at whatever cost it may be. But for economically developing countries like India where a majority of the common people fail to get two square meals a day paying the exorbitant cost of modern treatment for the longer life of a relative is an option which is simply unviable for many due to the huge recurring cost it entails upon the supporting person.
2. With the huge pressure on the limited infrastructure of the hospitals and the nursing homes being out of bounds for the poor and middle class people life saving treatment is still a dream that is yet to be fulfilled for the average Indian.
3. With the majority of the government hospitals being under staffed and under equipped the limited resources can be better utilized for treatment of those who have chance of survival rather than on those who do not even have a fighting chance of survival and are made to survive just for the sake of survival.
Most anti-euthanasia speakers will cry hoarse that euthanasia is violation of one’s religion.They will also point out that god being the only creator of life on this earth only the Almighty god can decide to take our lives.Nobody else has any right to decide whether a person's life can be taken away on the basis of his illness or physical conditions. But without showing any disrespect to any of god's powers i would like to advice these people to please study the religious guides thoroughly before drawing any conclusions.
In Catholic medical ethics as stated in the 1980 Declaration on Euthanasia issued by the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith ,official pronouncements strongly oppose active euthanasia, whether voluntary or not but
it also states that "When inevitable death is imminent... it is permitted in conscience to take the decision to refuse forms of treatment that would only secure a precarious and burdensome prolongation of life.
It can also be stated that the roman church regards it as morally acceptable to refuse extraordinary and aggressive medical means to preserve life. Refusing such treatment is not euthanasia but a proper acceptance of the human condition in the face of death.
On a concluding note I would like to state that euthanasia is and will remain a very controversial topic not because whether it is ethical or not but because of the way it is implemented on a case to case basis. There should be a constant monitoring organization to see that in cases of non voluntary euthanasia for people who are in a vegetative state or for those who cannot express their opinions, the power that lies in the hands of the nearest relatives are not mis-utilized.
THE TIBET CRISIS AND INDIA'S FOREIGN POLICY
The recent Tibet crisis has brought about a strange change in India's stance on this issue,regarding India's foreign policy.Since the time of Nehru India has followed a middle path..that is it has considered Tibet as an autonomous region within China but officially forbidding the tibetan people from carrying out any anti-China protests.This middle path has mainly been followed because India never did really want to snap its ties with China regarding the issue of autonomy of Tibet,while on the other hand it also wanted to maintain cordial relationship with the Tibetan people and that is why India has been recognising Tibet as an independant part of ChinaIndia 's relationship with Tibet has been extremely fruitful as Tibet acts as a barrier or a buffer between India and China,thus preventing any maligned interests of the Chinese army of advancing towards the Indian borders.
This is the precise reason why New Delhi has given asylum to Dalai Lama and allowed him to carry on his administrative and governing works from Dharamshala.But it has also been seen that in these years of long history India has particularly avoided in going in to a direct confrontation with China and has always tiptoed its line on the issue of Tiebt.
However, as is evident, India has historically ensured that it avoids really irking the Chinese on the issue of Tibet.
Moreover, with the changing times, there has also been a change in the tough stance of Dalai Lama. For example, the spiritual leader has reframed his position on Tibet - from claims for independence to concerns about economic welfare.
Hence, it makes little strategic sense for the Indian government to take such a drastic step of censuring him.
Many have attributed this step as a 'grand bargain' to win China's support for the nuclear deal and underlined New Delhi's desire not to risk its growing ties with Beijing.
But India has to be concerned over the economic and political stability of her northern Himalayan border region, where China's track record has been far from clean.
India must reinforce her inner buffers like Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim to check any unfavourable step from China.
Deng Xiaoping had said: "If China and India are developed, we can say that we have made our contributions to mankind."
And perhaps Manmohan Singh has taken Xiaoping too seriously; it seems that he has ventured out to serve mankind even though it is at the cost of the Dalai Lama and the people of Tibet.
EMOTIONAL INTIMACY OR PHYSICAL INTIMACY-WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT FOR A SUCCESSFUL RELATIONSHIP??
With the vast expansion of the internet one has all the information about a subject one wants to know about...and it has its bad as well as good effects.One of the bad effects is that a person may know about things for which he/she may not be mature enough either mentally or physically.And one of the most frequent of these subjects is that of physical intimacy between two persons who are engaged in a relationship.
A relationship between two persons is a new avenue for both the persons and one needs to explore one's compatibility with the partner before venturing into a permanent relationship .Love is the primary, fundamental building block in every relationship.Without love a relationship cannot withstand the test of time.love in its purest form is a divine expression ,a source of unbounding joy and pleasure for the person experiencing it...more so if it be for the first time.But let's not confuse love as an emotion and love as a means of physical intimacy.Love is self-aware in its primal, unified, unlimited, infinite state, it knows nothing other than unity, perfection, completion, wholeness.
Love between two persons cannot develop overnight...for this they have to know each other,understand each other and be emotionally attached with each other.A true test of love is not in bliss but in a time of crisis when one needs the support of ones partner the most..it is only through crisis that one can suddenly discover the emotional and mental chord that one shares with one's partner.And only when u and ur partner can resonate in unison will ur search for ur true love end.Then you will complete your search for a soulmate.

QUOTA-SOCIAL JUSTICE or POLITICAL GIMICRY....AN INTROSPECTION
The youth in india are standing at a critical juncture in their lives as they are left to ponder whether family lineage will play an important part in the development of their carrers.This may sound strange to people but that is what is happening in India with the government deciding to implement 27% quota for the Other Backward Classes in educational instituitions of international repute like the IIT s and IIMs in the name of social justice to these people.Indeed there is a vast majority of people in India who do not have access to quality education inspite of having the requisite talent due to the severe financial constraints.These people should be given special privileges and considerations but such poor people are present everywhere in India and not limited to the SCs, STs and OBCs.But to develop the overall educational conditions of these socially backward people we need a robust primary education system where the poor people are given free education till the primary levels and economic incentives are given to these people for attending schools and passing different classes successfully.The rationale behind this kind of suggestion of mine is that there is a very large dropout rate among the poor students in the primary classes.The main reason for this is that the people in the rural areas are more concerned about earning some amount of money to obtain two square meals a day rather than focussing on education because they do not understand the long term values of education...they onl;y see the instant advaantages..that is money to make a living.This is the major reason for child labour and drop outs from govt primary schools.
unless the primary education setup is improved there will be no improvement of the economically backward by implementing quotas in higher educational institutes.This is like building a skyscraper on a foundation of quicksand, and such a foundation will never withstand the test of time..it is destined to fail,it can only satisfy the short term votebank politics of these selfish political leaders who only understand votes and for them the deciding factor is the votes of the minority communities. So this implementation of quota is nothing but providing an illusion to these people that the govt is concerned about their wellfare when they are actually concerned about their votes.
Right now in Central government educational institutions, around 77 per cent of the seats are open to competition and if the same numbers are to be retained after providing for the reservation of 27 per cent for the OBCs, the seats available will have to be increased to 154 per cent of the current levels.
In seeking to implement the reservations scheme, the Government should bear in mind three imperatives. First, if the institutions are to take in additional numbers, it must get serious about strengthening their physical and academic infrastructure, including faculty, that is already under strain.
Secondly, in the larger interests of the nation, some institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institutes of Management need to be retained as islands of excellence, their entrance standards uncompromised even by socially desirable goals. If these institutions are able to provide education of a quality that could match the standards anywhere in the world, it is largely because the intensely competitive admission processes bring in students of the highest calibre. There may be debates over the right way of testing "merit", but in an educational institution any move away from an assessment of academic attainment and academic potential towards non-academic criteria would inevitably compromise standards.
Thirdly, there is the danger that, as has happened too often in different states, affirmative action would be seen as having been completed with the institution of quotas at the university stage. The task of strengthening the public school system that caters to the socially and educationally disadvantaged, as well as special enrichment programmes that would level the field are equally important and brook no delay.
The effect of the ramshackled primary education can be seen in the IITs and IIMs even now because though 22.5% of the seats are reserved for the SCs and STs a large portion of these allotted seats remain vacant.To perove my point i would like to put forward what UGC Chairman Thorat said "At higher education levels 1.2 lakh seats of reserved category are vacant"

Another demerit of the caste based quota system is that the people who will enjoy reservation may have the requisite talent but since they will know that they can enter any educational institute on the basis of their caste may prompt them to not to put that much effort in their studies.
The call of the hour is to implement reservations based on economic conditions and not on the basis of caste...and that reservation should also be in the fees required to be paid and not in the qualification category except in some very exceptional cases where the applicant is very poor and does not have access to any education resource but still has a prodigious talent and for that a monitoring agency should be set up.But before implementing quota in institutes of higher education the infrastructure of colleges and primary schools should be improved drastically to increase the enthusiasm and interest of the backward classes in education.This will serve two twin purposes in rural areas all over India...1. to increase the literacy rate in an unprecedcented way...even better than the sarva siksha abhiyaan and 2. to reduce the quantum of child labour practise in India.
On a concluding note i would like to add that as Shekhar Gupta has said in one of his editorials in the Indian Express, the (reservation) system “is the last — but perhaps the most destructive — relic of the licence quota raj“.
